 Clinical Tests

Pulse Oximetry

Oxygen saturation is measured by placing a small sensor on you finger tip.  This painless, non-invasive procedure measures functional oxygen saturation of arterial hemoglobin.  In other words it tells your physician how much oxygen your blood is carrying at that specific time.  The results are expressed as the percentage of the hemoglobin that is capable of transporting oxygen.  This measurement occurs when the sensor passes red and infrared light into the sensor site and determines absorption.  A normal oxygen saturation is between 95% and 100%.  This information is very important, especially during an acute asthma attack.  Overall, it enables your physician to monitor your condition and your response to treatment.

X-ray

In our main office we have new X-ray equipment to allow our physicians to evaluate your lungs.  Chest X-ray is an important part of the initial evaluation, especially in patients with a chronic cough, chest pain, or breathing difficulties.  Any patient with acute asthma, who develops these symptoms, can be evaluated on site with our modern equipment.  Immediate review of the films will be available by our physicians.  We will also send your films to a Radiologist for confirmatory over-read interpretation.  X-ray is a safe and painless diagnostic tool that aids your physician in accurately assessing your condition.

For chronic sinus problems, your physician can order limited or simple sinus X-rays.  These films will assist your physician in ruling out air fluid levels or pooling of mucus in your sinuses.

For evaluation of potential structural sinus problems, your physician may order a CT scan of your sinuses.  This is a special type of image that gives a cross section of your sinus linings.  There are several local Radiology offices that we refer to depending on your personal choice or insurance requirements.
